Michael Schumacher's Ferrari F2003-GA was on fire in this race, literally and figuratively. Schumacher qualified on pole, and was comfortably leading the race. Refueling during pit stops was allowed back then. When Michael made his first pit stop, some residual fuel from the nozzle drenched the bodywork and sidepods of his Ferrari, causing a small fire. Michael lost 12 seconds and rejoined in third. Then some good fortune would intervene as both Kimi Raikkonen's Mclaren-Mercedes and Juan Pablo Montoya's Williams-BMW had engine related issues. Michael thus inherited the lead and won the race.
