This incredible t-shirt features the 1967 Porsche 911R, winning car of the Marathon de la Route - Nurburgring 84 hours. The event was originally a rally running from Liege-Rome-Liege, subsequently becoming Spa-Rome-Liege, and in 1965 a final switch was made to the old Nurburgring’s Nordschleife and Sudschleife combined in order to facilitate the staging of the event.
Out of the 43 contenders, only 13 teams finished the lengthy race. In order to better adapt to harsh conditions, the Porsche’s engine was converted to a 911 S Sport-kit 175HP for the event.
Hans Herrmann, Jochen Neerpasch and Vic Elford completed 323 laps and averaged a speed of 67mph over a 5652 mile distance. Starting on a Tuesday, Elford took the chequered flag on a Saturday after him and his teammates dominated the marathon, leading most of the laps in the spectacular 1967 Porsche 911R.
This victory was especially significant for the 911R who received tremendous publicity as a car and the Porsche company as a whole.
